Fall 2019 One Room Challenge

Well… here we are again! It’s time for another round of the One Room Challenge. What exactly is the One Room Challenge? It’s a six week design event where extremely talented designers are challenged to redesign one room in six weeks. One of the highlights, among many others, of the ORC is that they provide a platform for guest participants (bloggers, influencers and the like) to join alongside and redesign a space as well. You can learn more about ORC here.

Here’s a look back at my before and after of the Spring ORC.

I honestly had no plans to participate this Fall with all the other things I have happening, including getting my shop up and running. But Jerome gave me the nudge to just do it. And so here we are!

Most of the spaces in our house are somewhat complete, but they just need a few things to polish off the rooms. Our dining room however, could use some work. It’s one of the first things you see when you walk through the door, which I’m all about your home making a statement from the moment you enter. Our dining room is not bad, but I know it can be better.

Here it is… In it’s current state, it’s served as a storage facility of all the things. I’m so ready to change that. We’ve hosted family for Thanksgiving in the past and I’d like to continue but I need to make this space warm and inviting like the rest of our home.

As you can see, it’s a complete hot mess. I’ve begun doing some planning which I am trying to decide on trim options. And yes, that it is a TV you are seeing in my dining room!

And yes… there are shoes as well…

Fall 2019 One Room Challenge // The Plan

So what’s the plan here? You guys know I love warm and inviting spaces. And I have been DYING to put wood on the ceiling somewhere in our home. The planning of this has been tricky. Much thanks to Jerome, who spent his only weekend off trying to figure out the best way to execute my vision in a budget friendly way. We haven’t completely figured it out so stay tuned to how we execute the idea.

Wall moulding is also in the plans. I feel like molding makes any room feel more custom. There is an existing chair rail which I plan to build out from that and add recessed panels.

So what do you think of the plans? There are quite a bit of projects that will need to be done in this space but I’m up for the challenge. Another thing to note about the space is this beautiful wallpaper I found. I’m hoping to be able to execute my plan completely but we all know how designs can go. Always, always, ALWAYS have a plan b!

Don’t forget to check out the other designer’s and cheer them on! And follow me on Instagram @homeonpoplarcreek where I’ll be sharing my progress in between posts.

Until next time,
