Fall 2019 Week Four // One Room Challenge

Did I hear someone say week four??? How can we possibly be in week four of the One Room Challenge already? If you are just finding your way here, I’m so happy to have you! I’m not going to lie, it’s been a rough few weeks and I’m just barely making it through this challenge, but I’m here to tell you if I start something I will finish it.

Fall One Room Challenge // Update

I thought I’d be a lot further along this week but there have been so many bumps in the road in my personal life. From a broken down vehicle on the way home from Home Depot (go figure) to a sick child, there have just not been enough hours in the day this week. Since we are in the middle of football season, Jerome hasn’t been able to help so I’m riding solo this season. Even though it’s not been easy, I welcome the challenge!

For one, this week has taught me to relax and go with the flow. I’m not going to lie, I was all in my feelings when my car broke down because I wasn’t able to spend my day working on the trim. But after taking a step back, I was ok and crisis was averted.

So far this week, I have managed to get all of the trim up, patched most seams, received my lighting, rug, console table and purchased a few decorative items.

This week I will be working like a mad woman to get the walls painted and wallpaper up… which brings me to the ceiling. The original design included wood planked ceilings. After giving it so much thought, I told Jerome that may not be such a good idea.

In all transparency, because of his occupation, we know that as much as we love our home, it’s likely not going to be our forever home. I have to be very conscious of the design decisions I make and whether or not it could turn off potential buyers. Since wood ceilings are more a matter of personal taste, I’m deciding to forgo them and have entertained the idea of faux wood beams.

The beams aren’t as permanent as the planks and they won’t be as big of a financial investment on a home we likely won’t be in long term. I can’t say this will be done before the end of the challenge but I’m still optimistic. If I can get these walls painted by the end of the weekend, you can sure as heck bet that I will try my hand at getting those woods beams up by the end of next week!

Don’t forget to come back next week and check out where things are! And be sure to follow along with all the other featured designers and guest participants which you can catch here!

Until next time,
