Welcome back for the last update of the Spring One Room Challenge before the week of big reveals! This season has been pretty monumental… from a delayed start due to COVID-19, an extended timeline and then mounting racial issues that have nearly come to a head causing so many to pause. Times have been tough and I know many of us have questioned whether we’ll finish on time due to so many circumstances stacked against us.

While there have been many things that have turned our attention away from the challenge, it has also made this process rewarding. The way I view home, is that it’s a safe space. It’s the only place we can block out the noise of the world and find peace. So creating rooms for One Room Challenge keeps me motivated to complete a space in my home that contributes to my family’s overall well being and sense of peace.
So on to this week’s progress. If you’ve been following on Instagram, I’ve shared that we finally got the closet door finished and installed. It is HUGE! I love what it adds to the space but once it was installed, I realized it changed the entire scale of the chalkboard that sits next to it. This weekend I’ll sand down the chalkboard and making it taller and wider so it doesn’t get lost next to the door.

Also this week, I’ve been working on finishing touches. Initially I had plans to add color and texture by making a few throw pillow using these beautiful Schumacher fabrics. Unfortunately, the fabrics went on back order so I wasn’t able to get what I needed. So on to plan B. Finding ready made pillows… which has been a task. Here’s a look back at the plans I had.

One of the challenges this week has been finding accessories for the room. I typically depend on places like Home Goods to find accessories, frames, etc but COVID has made that a challenge. Even with online ordering, I’ve run into the issues of delayed shipping and lots of items on backorder.
We also had to decide on artwork this week. When it comes to kids rooms, I like to include kid interests. HOWEVER, I only like to do that through artwork and various accessories. Kids likes change constantly. And my kids are no different. One week it’s Marvel, the next Mario and then the next Transformers. Instead of going with character bedding and decals on the wall, I like to choose a base that can be adapted to any character theme.
We had some Marvel artwork from Jaden’s last room so we decided to run with it. We found these cool prints that will be included into the room as well as a few touches here and there.

I also had an idea to add a lego wall to the room but I’m still working on the details of that. All in all, I feel pretty good about finishing up next week. I’m so excited to share with you guys the full reveal. Even though the space isn’t styled yet, the whole family loves hanging out in Jaden’s room now. You all know by now, I love for a room to pull you in and give all the warm and cozy vibes. And this does exactly that. This room has become the family hangout spot.
Well friends, be sure to meet me back here next week for the final reveal! I’m so excited to share! And in the meantime, make sure you head over to the ORC blog to check out all the other guest participants and featured designers this week!
