Turkey and Cheese Monkey Bread
Do you remember those ooey gooey ham and cheese sliders smothered in buttery goodness that were floating around Pinterest a few years ago? I was so obsessed with them that they made it to my dinner rotation. Just the other day I was thinking about those sweet little rolls of heaven and had the bright idea to turn them into a savory turkey and cheese monkey bread.
I couldn’t wait to give this recipe a try. I’ve always alternated between turkey and ham, although most recipes you’ll find ham. For this recipe, I knew I already had turkey in my fridge and since I knew turkey would work out just fine, I went with it.
One of my favorite things about this recipe is the poppy seeds. They add sort of mild peppery bursts of flavor just like what you’d get with an everything bagel.
Assembling the turkey and cheese monkey bread is pretty easy and a bit time consuming but worth every minute. I used Pillsbury Sweet Hawaiian Crescent Rolls to keep it as close to the idea of the infamous Ham and Cheese sliders.
To get things going, I started by rolling the crescent dough together into one large ball of dough. I then made equal sized balls and filled them with swiss cheese and turkey. Then they get tossed into a lightly greased bundt pan.
Fill the bottom of the bundt pan creating a single layer. This is where you’ll start to layer your dough, butter mix and mozzarella cheese.
Repeat your layers of dough, butter and cheese until you’ve used up all your dough.
Now your turkey and cheese monkey bread is ready to hit the oven! Once it came out, I flipped it over on to a plate but did not remove it from the pan just yet. I wanted to let it rest and allow the butter to soak down to the top of the bread.
Once I removed the pan I sprinkled a bit more cheese and parsley on top. With every recipe there’s always one thing I wish I would have done differently. The next time I make this, which will be soon, I’ll definitely reserve some of the butter mixture to brush on the top once it comes out of the oven.
Welp girls! I hope you’ll give this one a try. With the Superbowl happening this weekend and Jaxon’s birthday I’m sure it will make an appearance.
